Dr. J.P. Tedford holds B.A. and Ph.D. degrees in counseling
psychology. Dr. Tedford has been ordained as a priest and
minister from three separate denominations and also holds a D.D.
degree in theology although he does not condone any specific
organized religious group. Dr. Tedford believes in the
Taoist tradition that we each must follow our own path toward
enlightenment. Dr. Tedford has studied many different
career fields including psychiatric nursing, surgical technology
and many different holistic practices. In the course of his
medical studies, Dr. Tedford was first introduced to hypnosis
while working in the operating room and witnessed major surgery
performed on a woman with no anesthetic being used at all.
The woman was able to control the flow of blood while surgery was
taking place and felt no pain during the procedure. Since
then, Dr. Tedford studied hypnosis and received certification and
registration as a Hypnotherapist and utilizes hypnosis whenever
necessary in his counseling sessions. Dr. Tedford teaches
self-hypnosis to his clients and uses several hypnotic techniques
as a valuable therapeutic tool.
Dr. Tedford also refers to himself as a Reality Therapist.
Reality Therapists are a group of researchers who believe that we
are each accountable for our own state of mind regardless of our
condition or environmental situation and he teaches reality
therapy to clients for better self-understanding and
self-acceptance.
In 1985, Dr. Tedford's self-help book, THE ART OF HAPPINESS was
published. The book deals with happiness as a learning
experience. Having studied world religions, Dr. Tedford
uses the four aspects of life (Physical, mental, spiritual and
social) to enhance self-knowledge, which leads to self-awareness,
self-appreciation and self-control which then leads to
strengthening the self through self-discipline and finally
self-contentment. With this knowledge one can accomplish
any self-directed goal set within a positive, yet realistic
manner.
