Private chat
To talk to a person privately, double click their name. A new window will come up, and everything you say in it goes directly to that person. You can still hear messages from people without having a window open for them.

Things NOT to do on the chat room
That is usually refered to as "Flooding". Here's a common "scroller":
This is just as annoying as a flooder, because it "scrolls" everyone else's text off the screen many times. Take the time and write a complete sentence.
How to register your name
First make your name the name that you want to keep. Then type this command:
You make up the password. Make sure to write it down. If you get a message that says the name is taken, then choose another name.
Now, if you want chat to kick other people off who try to use your name when you are not online, type this command:
After this, when you go on the chat room, nickserv may ask you for your password. Use this command:

The sound will only be heard by others using the java client. Some common sounds are: bell, laugh, gong, moo, crash, flush, knock and whistle
To display the list enter /list
. You can also
filter the room list using /list
filter
.
For example: /list *teen*
will show only rooms with
teen in the name.
If you select one or more names from the list then your messages (and sounds) will only go to those people. There are two special characters that preceed some names: @ indicates an operator that issue commands to control the room. + indicates a user with "voice", only users with voice can speak in a moderated room.
